Kevin’s Swimming Background

Kevin grew up in Deerfield, Illinois, where he developed his passion for swimming through years of competition at both the club and high school levels. As a student-athlete at Deerfield High School, Kevin competed at the Illinois High School Association (IHSA) state championships, specializing in the IM and backstroke events.

Kevin continued his swimming career at Kalamazoo College, where he swam for four years and served as team captain his senior year. During his time there, he was a four-time All-MIAA conference honoree and earned conference championships in multiple events, including the 200 backstroke, 200 IM, and 400 IM. He was twice named a Scholar All-American Honorable Mention by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America, recognizing both his athletic performance and academic achievement.

As a student-athlete, Kevin led and directed Swim for Success, a youth learn-to-swim program serving children from low-income families in the Kalamazoo area. During the summers, he coached for a summer league team, where he was responsible for developing swimmers in the 11–15 age group. He also gained broad coaching experience through camps at the University of Southern California, University of Michigan, Hartwick College, and Kalamazoo College, and completed his senior thesis research on the variation in training protocols across NCAA swimming programs nationwide.

After graduating in 2016, Kevin moved to Walla Walla and joined the Whitman College swim coaching staff. In his six seasons as an assistant coach for the men’s and women’s teams, Whitman swimmers achieved five team conference titles, set numerous school records, and earned multiple NCAA All-American honors. In addition to his work on deck, Kevin also led the strength & conditioning program and helped athletes develop skills in the weight room that complemented their work in the pool.

Kevin holds a Master’s degree in Exercise Science and Kinesiology, with a focus in Strength and Conditioning. He is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist and Certified Personal Trainer and has additional credentials through USA Weightlifting and CrossFit. He is also working toward his bronze coach certification through USA Swimming.
